Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Ubisoft returns to the Sands of Time universe for a fourth time in this May 2010 release, coinciding with the release of the Disney produced motion picture.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands for the Wii was built up from the ground with the Wii in mind and has a unique plot and gameplay elements to best utilise the  Wii's motion controls.

Gameplay

Unlike the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of The Forgotten Sands that have very large groups of enemies, the Wii version concentrates on small groups of enemies that are more vicious and attack more frequently, creating an atmosphere more akin to the previous Prince of Persia games than the other version of The Forgotten Sands.  While in combat, the Prince makes use of his blade with the Wii Remote and hands through the use of the Nunchuk. All of the other move that the Prince is famous for are controlled through the buttons. In this version of the game, there are no elemental powers and the Prince instead has new sand abilities such as the Sand Ring, which can freeze enemies for a short time, giving the Prince an advantage. Normally, enemies will arrive in small groups, allowing the Prince to easily dispatch them, but there are time where a "leader" will be with the group (you can tell this by the blue aura that surrounds them). In order to win these fights, you will need to concentrate your attacks on the leader instead of his minions.

Traversal of the terrain is supported by the Prince's new power and a genie called Zahra. Not only does the Sand Ring freeze enemies, but it can also allow you to climb up surfaces that don't have a ledge or grip. You will also be able to control pillars that help the Prince get up to higher areas and a protective sphere that can save you from fatal accidents such as getting caught in a trap or falling down a pit. Zahra can create lines that shows where the Prince can jump to depending on the direction the Prince is facing. The movement of the game is also noticeably faster than that of the other versions, as well as the jumping height.

Story

The Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is much different from the other console versions, making no reference to the Prince's brother Malik, the Djinn Razia, or Ratash and Solomon's Army (the main enemies of the game). Instead, the story begins with the Prince being lead by the Genie Zahra, who is making claims that she can give the Prince a kingdom and princess if he follows her. Once they arrive to the spot where the kingdom was to be, the Prince sees nothing and feels cheated. Zahra tells him to kiss a statue in the middle of the clearing and once he does, he is able to see what Zahra sees, which is the kingdom of Izdihar. The Prince soon realizes that the kingdom is in poor condition, but manages to find a sword stuck in stone. After pulling it out, he accidently frees a women and a beast. The Prince attempts to kill the beast, but the sword is broken after he stabs it, causing the beast to flee. Zahra then explains to the Prince that the sword that he pulled from the stone was once used to seal a ancient monster known as the Haoma and by taking the sword, has released it once again, along with the women and beast. In order to defeat the Haoma, the Prince must retrieve the rest of the sword that is stuck in the beast and reforge it as it is the only way the Haoma can be sealed again.

While searching for the beast, Zahra tells the Prince that the genies once lived in Izdihar, but were all killed by the Haoma. Zahra decided that in order to get revenge on it, she needed someone who was strong enough to kill it. She found the Prince and tricked him into following her as she knew he wanted a kingdom and princess to impress his father She also knew that he would find and take the sword from the stone, thus releasing the Haoma. The Prince continues through the kingdom until he finally finds and fights the beast. As it dies, it is revealed that the beast was once the king of Izdihar and that the women who was sealed along with him is his daughter, the Princess. He tells the Prince that she needs to be saved from the Haoma as she is under its spell and so the Prince sets out to renew the sword by completing the Four Trials of the Gods.

After finishing the trials, the sword is reforged and the Prince heads off to face the Raoma once and for all. Once he finds it, he learns that the Raoma is actually a giant plant like creature and is using the Princess as a host. The Prince is forced to fight the Princess and finally frees her from the Raoma, but the plants attempt to drag her away. The Prince runs to her before she is taken and kisses her, giving her the powers he received from the statue in the beginning of the game. Afterwards, the plants start to die and Izdihar begins to crumble along with them. The Princess falls down a ledge, but the Prince believes she will be fine with his powers. Zahra helps the Prince escape the collapsing kingdom and then she disappears. The Prince then starts his long journey out into the desert while he wonders what became of the Princess. A epilogue is given by Zahra, revealing that she was the Princess and that she believes the Prince will come back to the fallen kingdom to locate her in the future.

Some gamers have taken the Wii version as a prequel to the other console versions and that once the Prince leaves the ruins of Izdihar, he heads to his brother's kingdom to begin the next part of the Forgotten Sands storyline, but this has not been confirmed by Ubisoft.
